What We Believe

Who is God?

We believe there is one true God, but many other fake gods.  The true God is self-existent, perfect, and the creator of everything that came into existence. All other gods are created beings who wrongly rebelled against God.

God is perfectly loving, existing in perfect unity of three persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit.  God has a personal name, which is Yahweh in Hebrew, translated in English as “I Am.” God has told us that at the center of his character, He cares about us, He shares feelings, He helps us, he does not respond in anger immediately even when we deserve it, he lovingly does what is best for us regardless of the cost to him, he is always faithful and true in word and deed, he is willing to forgive our wrongdoing and not punish us, but he will not fail to punish those who refuse his offer of forgiveness.

Why do we exist?

We exist because God created us and sustains us.  We, along with the rest of the universe, were created by God, who exists independent of matter and time, and who knit the universe together in one cohesive structure.  Every person can know this fact by looking at creation, observing its enormity, unity, complexity, and beauty.

God created people to be in loving relationship with him and with one another.  We do this by reflecting God’s loving character as we rule the earth through authority delegated to us by God.

What went wrong?

We are born into a world filled with wrongdoing, in which people fail to love God and love others, and this broken world draws us into doing wrong ourselves.  Every person can know this through his or her conscience. Since we reject God who gives us life, we all die.  And since we all do wrong, no one deserves to be in heaven, which is a perfect place.

Where is our hope?

Since people are imperfect, prone to failure and wrongdoing, we cannot rely on people to perfect the world.  Only God, who is perfect and who created the world, is capable of perfecting it.  So our only hope is to turn to God, trusting that he will be kind to us, and will exercise his love and power to fix our broken condition and fix the entire world.
